A simple story of devotion, tradition, and a small dream called Thakurghor.
There are some ideas that don’t come to us suddenly — they grow quietly inside us over the years. Thakurghor is one such idea.
It started from a very simple problem we faced at home: During festivals, when time was short and markets were overflowing with crowds, it became extremely difficult to go out and arrange all the puja essentials. We often asked ourselves — “Why isn’t there a proper place online to buy puja items?”
And honestly, there isn’t much. Not many good options. Not many authentic ones. Not many we could trust.
At the same time, we also thought of the many homes where elderly people stay alone, or families where health issues or busy schedules make it impossible to go to a crowded market. It slowly became clear to us — maybe we should do something about this.
🪔 Our Roots: Where It All Began
I grew up in a family where pujas were not just rituals — they were moments of feelings. We celebrated many pujas at home, and each one carried its own warmth.
As a child, I remember: My mother carefully arranging all the items for the puja. Collecting flowers and leaves with my father from nearby and even neighbours’ houses. Drawing alpona on the floor. The fragrance of incense filling the rooms. The quiet happiness that came from doing these things together. Back then, life felt simpler. Today, everything feels rushed. Many of those items we used to find nearby are no longer available around us. Busy schedules take over, and our cultural habits slowly slip away — not because we don’t want them, but because it has become harder to keep up. This thought stayed with me for years..

The idea behind Thakurghor is very simple: Your traditions should not suffer just because life is busy. Cultural roots, puja rituals, daily worship — these are things that connect us to who we are. But when there’s no time, or no one available to go to the market, we often compromise.
Thakurghor is our attempt to be a helping hand. We want to make sure that: You get authentic puja items. You don’t have to fight through huge crowds. Elderly family members can order with ease. Your traditions continue without interruption. Your home’s thakurghor always remains complete.

🪔 Behind the Scenes: Our Real Journey
The journey hasn’t been easy. This is something I want to say honestly. Finding authentic suppliers was the most difficult part in the beginning. We visited different markets, many shops, checked countless items, compared quality, and only then made decisions. Every single product on Thakurghor is handpicked. Balancing all this with a full-time job has not been easy either. But then again—no good thing is ever easy.
🪔 Some struggles we faced:
Choosing genuine, high-quality items. Managing everything within a limited budget. Searching for the right packaging materials. Finding reliable shipping partners. Learning a lot of things from scratch. Making mistakes and learning from them. Improving step by step, every single day.
But none of this was done alone. This is not a one-person job. Family support is the backbone of Thakurghor. Every small growth we have seen has come from collective effort and shared belief. And with every passing day, as we gather more experience, we are becoming better — and we promise to keep improving.
🪔 The Meaning Behind the Name:
The name Thakurghor is extremely special to us. In Bengali,
‘Thakur’ means God and ‘Ghor’ means Room.
So ‘Thakurghor’ means — “God’s room”, the puja room of your home, the sacred corner where all your rituals begin.
Our dream was to create an online version of your home’s thakurghor — a place where you can find everything you need for any puja, tradition, or ritual. That was the thought behind the name and that is the thought behind everything we do.
